Altered fungal communities in contaminated soils from French industrial brownfields

چکیده

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals are contaminants of industrial brownfield soils. Pollutants can have harmful effects on fungi, which major actors soil functioning. Our objective was to highlight fungal selection following long-term contamination Fungal diversity assessed 30 top-soil samples from ten sites gathered in three groups with different levels physico-chemical characteristics: 1) uncontaminated controls, 2) slag heaps displaying high PAH moderate metal contaminations, 3) settling ponds intermediate contaminations. Although abundance richness were similar among the groups, evenness indices lower for heap group. differed at phylum OTU levels, indicator species identified. The relative Agaricomycetes, Saccharomycetes, Leotiomycetes Chytridiomycota higher control soils than two contaminated Cryptomycota LKM11 representatives favoured pond their correlated zinc lead levels. Dothideomycetes – positively linked Eurotiomycetes specific Pucciniomycetes especially Gymnosporangium members

Development of fungal inocula for bioaugmentation of contaminated soils.

This report describes novel fungal inocula for bioaugmentation of soils contaminated with hazardous organic compounds. The inocula are in the form of pelleted solid substrates coated with a sodium alginate suspension of fungal spores or mycelial fragments and incubated until overgrown with the mycelium of selected lignin-degrading fungi. The organisms evaluated were Phanerochaete chrysosporium ...

Evidence that chytrids dominate fungal communities in high-elevation soils.

Periglacial soils are one of the least studied ecosystems on Earth, yet they are widespread and are increasing in area due to retreat of glaciers worldwide. Soils in these environments are cold and during the brief summer are exposed to high levels of UV radiation and dramatic fluctuations in moisture and temperature. Recent research suggests that these environments harbor immense microbial div...

Extractability and mobility of mercury from agricultural soils surrounding industrial and mining contaminated areas.

This study focussed on a comparison of the extractability of mercury in soils with two different contamination sources (a chlor-alkali plant and mining activities) and on the evaluation of the influence of specific soil properties on the behaviour of the contaminant. The method applied here did not target the identification of individual species, but instead provided information concerning the ...

Remediation potential of native plant species in Iran to remove diesel from contaminated brownfields

Redevelopment of brownfields sites is a challenging issue throughout the world, which has gained increasing attention in recent years. Lands affected by oil wastes and products are among common types of brownfields sites in Iran. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) was employed to remediate diesel polluted soils in this study. The main aims of this study were to examine the phytoremediation potential of ...
